Murray State College is proud to announce that Head Softball Coach Aaron Mullens will return for his 10th season, continuing a legacy of excellence and championship success.
Since joining Murray State in November of 2016, Coach Mullens has built one of the most competitive softball programs in the NJCAA. Under his leadership, the Lady Aggies have advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series five consecutive years, beginning in 2021, setting multiple program records and making history along the way.
“It’s an honor to continue leading this incredible group of student-athletes,” Mullens said. “Over the past decade, we’ve built something truly special at Murray State – on the field and in the classroom. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m even more excited about what’s ahead. We’re focused, determined and ready to keep raising the bar.”
Mullens has been named NJCAA Region 2 Coach of the Year four times. Most recently, in 2024, he and his coaching staff were honored as the NJCAA Division II South Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the second consecutive season. The staff also received the highest national honor, being named NJCAA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Lady Aggies continue to dominate at the regional and district levels, claiming five consecutive Southwest Plains District Championships and nine straight NJCAA Region 2 Division II titles.
In 2023, Mullens achieved his 200th career collegiate coaching win, and the Lady Aggies entered the NJCAA Division II World Series as the tournament’s number one seed. In 2024, he surpassed 300 wins and has a current coaching record of 379-77.
“Coach Mullens has built a championship-caliber program that reflects the highest standards of athletic and academic achievement,” said Brandon Bowling, Murray State College Athletic Director. “His vision and work ethic continue to set the tone for what it means to be a Lady Aggie, and we’re excited for what the future holds under his leadership.”
Throughout his tenure, Mullens has coached 19 NFCA All-Americans, 18 NJCAA All-Americans, 53 NJCAA All-Region 2 honorees, and 52 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, reflecting his commitment to success both on the field and in the classroom.
Ten Lady Aggies will return for the 2025-2026 season. This is a testament to Mullens’ leadership and the value of community and belonging fostered to support Murray State students from admission to the commencement stage.
“Coach Mullens represents the kind of dedication and excellence we value at Murray State College,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College President. “He’s not only built a successful program, but he’s also contributed to the pride and reputation of our college on a national scale.”
Mullens graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Education and again in 2010 with a Master of Arts in School Administration. He and his wife, Cassie, have been married for 14 years, and they have an eight-year-old son, Julian. They reside in Durant, Oklahoma.
