The Murray State College Student Success Center has recently hired Gary Webb to serve as the Student Success Center Director. Webb, a graduate of Murray State College with additional degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma State University, has spent the majority of his life working in public education.

Directing the Student Success Center marks his third stint in Tishomingo and a return to where his higher education journey began. Webb, who was originally from Kingston, has fond memories of his time as a Murray State College student in the early 1980s and has a strong connection with the college.

In addition to being named an ‘Outstanding Sophomore” in 1981, he was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Phi Alpha, Student Senate, the MSC Choir and a cast member in MSC’s production of My Fair Lady. Webb also was a prominent member of the ‘MSC Entertainers,’ a performance group that visited local schools and civic organizations to promote Murray State College. Webb said he has many great memories of and stories from his time at Murray and has many friends and college buddies with whom he still has contact with.

Webb taught in a small school near Stillwater while working on his master’s degree. Following graduation, he returned to Tishomingo where he served as an elementary principal for 20 years. His long-time connection to the Tishomingo community is evident in his former students, many of whom attended and were student leaders at Murray State and a few who are current staff members at the college.

“I am thrilled to be back in Tishomingo working with students again,” said Webb.

Located in the Library Science Building on MSC’s Tishomingo campus, the Student Success Center offers a number of services designed to ensure the success of Murray State students. Services include tutoring in writing, math, science, and study skills and services such as academic coaching, career development resources, and content specific workshops.
