Murray State College 2019 Summer STEM Camp accepting applications

June 24, 2019

Eighth- and ninth-grade students from across Oklahoma are invited to take part in the 2019 Murray State College Summer STEM Academy. The STEM Academy is a four-day camp that promotes student understanding of and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects through creative hands-on activities. Applications can be found on the MSC website.

Each day of the academy will include activities involving electronics, astronomy, app-building, various engineering design competitions and more. Students will also be able to enhance their skills in creativity, teamwork and analytical reasoning.

“STEM subjects have always been important building blocks for students. We’ve been given a great opportunity through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education grant to expose pre-college students to new ways of exploring and learning more about these important subjects in a fun and creative atmosphere,” MSC President Joy McDaniel said.

The MSC Summer STEM Academy strives to enhance student knowledge and interest in STEM subjects through learning opportunities and hands-on experiences in mathematics, science and multi-disciplinary studies while integrating technology. College instructors lead the classes and activities with assistance from Murray State College students.

This summer two camps will be offered. The traditional camp will be offered at the MSC campus in Tishomingo, July 29-August 1 and a second version at the UCSO in Ardmore from July 15 – July 18. Both camps will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunches, snacks and some take-home activities will be provided. A $25 fee will be due the first day of the camp to help defray expenses throughout the week. Both camps are open to students who will be entering 8th or 9th grade in the fall.
