Message from President McDaniel: MSC transitions to all online classes beginning March 30th.

March 17, 2020

Dear Murray State Students and Colleagues:

I am reaching out to provide an update on our response to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

First and foremost, you need to know that we will not be returning to campus on March 23 as previously planned. It has been decided that lecture classes will convert to online instruction beginning March 30 until otherwise indicated.  Faculty who teach lecture classes will be using the week of March 23-27 to prepare for the transition to online instruction. In all instructional situations, faculty have been encouraged to use multiple means of instruction and to be flexible with students.

Students currently enrolled in classes online will continue as usual. Adjustments with regard to lab and other activities may be made, but classes will continue in the regular format. Please contact your instructor with questions or concerns.

Murray State has information on our website at mscok.edu which can be accessed through a link at the very top of the opening page. Please refer to this webpage early and often as we will be adding information frequently.

All student service offices and faculty will continue conducting business and will be working remotely. All MSC employees who are able to work remotely should do so beginning Monday, March 23. Employees whose work requires them to be physically present on campus will be notified by their supervisors. Academic/administrative leaders and their human resource and supervisor teams are currently working to develop case-by-case plans based on the immediate needs and nature of individual units' work. Supervisors will be in touch with their teams as soon as possible to communicate plans.

The health and safety of our campus community and the world at large are the reasons we have decided to take these steps.  Decisions were not made lightly and we anticipate additional questions, new developments and changes to these plans.  With those factors in mind, refer to the Murray State College website at mscok.edu for more detailed and evolving information on this topic.  Please check it frequently for the latest information.

Dorms will reopen on Monday, March 23, with food service available on campus. We will be working with Great Western Dining to determine the best method of delivery.

Many thanks to each of you for your cooperation as we enter these uncharted waters and make plans to foster positive outcomes for all.

Joy McDaniel, President
