Aggie men’s basketball, ranked #12 nationally, remains undefeated in regional play

Coming off a convincing 93-67 win versus Western Oklahoma State College the previous week, the Murray State Men’s Basketball Team came into their game February 10 against regional rival Eastern Oklahoma State looking to extend their winning streak to 12 games. The Aggies came into Monday’s match up with 19 wins and three losses overall and 10 and zero in Region II play.
Murray State, who defeated the Mountaineers by 10 points in the first half of regional play, and Eastern each held a slight lead early in the first half, battling to a 33-33 tie at halftime. In the second half, the Aggies regained the lead and expanded it quickly, ultimately winning the game 84-64. They were led in scoring by freshman Jaylan Thomas and sophomore Shem’mario Stephens with 17 points each. Freshman Dyson Plumley added 13 points and redshirt freshman Cedric Garrett had 12 points. The win kept the Aggies, who shot 51.6% from the field in the game, undefeated in regional play and helped them maintain the top spot in the region and #12 ranking in the NJCAA.
On January 13, the Aggies hosted the 6-6 Seminole State College Trojans at Beames Fieldhouse in Tishomingo. Murray State dominated the pace of the game early, outscoring Seminole State 46-34 at halftime.
The Trojans led several rallies in the second half, but were unable to regain momentum from the surging Aggies who held on to win the game 92-80. Murray State was led in scoring by Plumley with 29 points, including six three-pointers, and Garrett with 10 points. Thomas and sophomore Adam Nance led the Aggies in rebounding with seven rebounds each in the win. The victory moves the Aggies to 12 wins and zero losses in regional play and 21-and-three overall going into Murray State’s February 17 road game versus NOC-Tonkawa. The Aggies then face Northeastern Oklahoma State A&M on February 20 in a battle for the top spot in the region going into the final week of regional play.
