Nursing Program

Nursing Program Overview:

Murray State College Nursing Program is pleased to provide students the opportunity to achieve academic and personal goals. This is an exciting and challenging time to enter into the nursing profession. MSC offers two distinct entry options:

  • Traditional Pathway

  • Career Mobility Online pathway for LPN's LVN's and Licensed Paramedics.

Students are selected from eligible applicants according to a point system (docx). At the completion of the nursing program students will graduate with an Associate in Applies Science Degree and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses. 

Admissions:

The Murray State College Nursing Program in Tishomingo, Oklahoma offers a traditional and advanced placement pathway to the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. A graduate of this program is eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Any student may declare a nursing major while enrolled in general education or support courses. These students are not admitted to the nursing program. A separate application and admissions process is required for admittance to the degree-granting program. Students are admitted to the nursing program based on a points system. Selection points are determined using the applicant’s ATI TEAS Admission Assessment score, ACT score, grades earned for coursework required for degree completion, and a few other considerations.  

Applications and supporting documents will be accepted only during the application period and can be turned in to the Health Sciences Building Nursing Program Office Suite 100. Completed applications consisting of all requested documents must be received by the last day of the application period.

The MSC Tishomingo Nursing Program admits 40-45 Freshman Students in March for Fall semester entry, Murray at Mercy Nursing Program admits 15-20 Freshman Students in October for Spring semester entry  and 25-30 Career Mobility students in March for Fall semester entry.

Traditional Student Application Process:

For consideration into the MSC Nursing Program applicants must have a completed application on file in the Health Sciences Building, Office Suite 100, received on or before deadline for the Murray at Mercy campus nursing program or the Tishomingo campus nursing program.

As a professional educational program the nursing program is a limited-entry program. To be considered for admission students are required to meet the following:

  1. Achieve a minimum ATI Teas score of 58.7% Proficient on one of two attempts between August 1, 2019- March 5, 2019

  2. Achieved a minimum ACT composite score of 19/ SAT score of 900-930 or college GPA of 3.0 or higher if composite ACT is less than 19/SAT score less than 900.

  3. Have a college retention GPA of 2.5 or nursing prerequisite GPA of 3.0.

  4. Each prerequisite course grades must have a grade of "C" or better.

  5. Applicants are required to have their ACT reviewed and GPA calculated prior to taking the ATI Teas entrance exam.

  6. Nursing application submitted to Murray State College Nursing Program. Application with picture, scores sheets, and transcripts must be in packet submitted to the nursing program.

Space availability is a condition of acceptance.

Career Mobility Student Application Process:

Murray State College Career Mobility option gives LPN's, LVN's and Licensed Paramedics direct articulation for NUR1118 and allows completion of a NUR1129 challenge exam. A passing score allows students to complete the RN nursing program in two semesters.

Graduates of this program will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing from Murray State College, and will be eligible to take The National Council Licensure Exam. Upon successfully passing this exam you will be a Registered Nurse (RN).

  1. As a professional educational program the nursing program is a limited-entry program. To be considered for admission students are required to meet the following: ACT composite score of 19 or higher/SAT score of 900-930 or higher. College retention GPA of 2.5 or nursing prerequisite GPA of 3.0 is required for submission of a nursing program application. Each prerequisite course grades must have a grade of "C" or better.

  2. ATI Teas Exam score of 58.7% (Proficient) on 1 of two attempt between November 1, 2018 -March 5, 2020. Applicants are required to have their ACT reviewed and GPA calculated prior to taking the ATI Teas entrance exam.

  3. Achieve a minimum HESI RN Entrance Challenge Assessment score of 850. (See information below)

  4. Hold an official and current License/certification as an LPN or Paramedic.

  5.  Nursing application submitted to Murray State College Nursing Program.

  6. Application with picture, scores sheets, and transcripts must be in packet submitted to the nursing program.

Topics to review for the challenge exam:

  • Fundamentals, Cardiac, Respiratory, Med/Surg. Pediatrics, Maternity, Mental Health, Delegation.

  • Complete quizzes and exams in a NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN review book covering topics listed.

The MSC nursing programs NCLEX-RN review book recommendation is: Silvestri- NCLEX-RN Examination 7th ed. The book allows you to complete exams and quizzes over specific concepts online.

  1. Pick up a Challenge Exam form available in the Health Sciences building Suite 100.

  2. The Challenge Exam fee is $225.00 and is to be paid to the MSC business office prior to the exam.

  3. The receipt of payment and challenge form will be presented at the time of testing. 

  4. Students must present a valid photo ID to be admitted for testing.
