                         What is an online course?

Online courses are taught with communication taking place electronically via the Internet. Students enrolling in online courses can conveniently complete coursework in the comfort of their own home. The students submit course material online and maintain electronic communications with the instructor of their course.

Once the student has registered for an online course what does he/she need to know and do?
First, the student will need to complete the Online Orientation. Since technology equipment and computer skills are necessary elements needed in an online course, the Technical Support section of the Online Orientation includes a mandatory completion form that must be filled out, signed, and forwarded to the Distance Learning Coordinator.  This form states that the student has completed the Technical Support portion of the Online Orientation and understands each topic section.

Second, the student will need to contact the instructor for information regarding course entry. The student must contact the instructor prior to the first day of regular scheduled classes. Students can find instructor contact information on the Faculty and Staff Support page of the Distance Learning web site.

Please be advised that some Internet courses will require proctoring of exams.  Notify the instructor of the course for this information.

Important Information

Contact Instructor:  Once students enroll into an Internet course they must contact their instructor via email BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.  Students are responsible for meeting this requirement and fulfilling the course requirements as described via the course syllabus provided by the instructor.  Please be reminded that Internet courses are on the same 16 week schedule as regular, traditional classes.  To find instructor contact information click Faculty and Staff Support.

Student Email: All enrolled MSC students are assigned an email account.  Internet instructors use the student's MSC email account as the communication tool for the class.  To get information on how to access your MSC email, go to the MSC Web Site and click Student Email located on the homepage.

Blackboard: MSC Internet classes are on the Blackboard platform.  To get information on how to access Blackboard, go to the MSC Web Site, and click the Student Frequently Asked Blackboard Questions.
