Background Note Over a half a century ago, a male child was born. According to his mother, he was exceptionally curious about the natural world from the time his senses could detect the environment around him and his brain could interpret the stimuli. At four years old in central New Mexico, he sat amongst red ants at the edge of their gravelly piles and invited them to crawl over his arms and hands. He was never stung, to the amazement of his parents! He discovered that ants from one colony were not well accepted in distant colonies. Thus goes the story of his earliest recollection of nature study. I was that child, and in many ways I am still that child. My curiosity has not waned. Older, perhaps a bit wiser, I have survived to enjoy a satisfying career of teaching, studying and learning about nature. My adventurous side has led me to a bewildering array of life experiences both professionally and personally. I am happy, joyous and free today. My professional experience includes seven years in environmental consulting followed by over 25 years of teaching various life science courses at Murray State College and elsewhere. This web page has links to an array of materials I use in teaching life sciences. There are also links that deal with a variety of related materials and even humanities (through our unique program, Mexican Ecology and Culture). I hope you will explore the site and find items of interest to you. I welcome comments and criticisms. I am honored by your visit. |
