Unit 7

FINAL EXAM

MAIN

Welcome to Unit 7.

In Unit 7 you will take an essay test over the material we have covered this semester.  This test will consist of three (3) paragraphs, each of which answers one of the questions that you will receive when you E-mail the instructor and request a copy of the Final Exam.  You will, of course, be able to use the Norton Anthology and the presentations.  However, you should not share information—nor work together—with other students of Web 2413.

The written assignment for Unit 7 is Paper 3.  Paper 3 is a series of three informal essays of at least one hundred (100) words each.   These essays should be used to answer the three questions that you will receive from the instructor.  All three questions must be answered correctly—and completely—in order for Paper 7 to be accepted.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Please be advised of the following:

  1. In this unit you will complete and submit your sixth written assignment.  However, your Paper 2 must have been submitted and returned marked "Accepted" before you can submit Paper 3.

  2. The written assignment for Unit 7 (Paper 3) is a series of paragraph-length informal essays. They should be written in an informal style.  However, you must still follow basic grammatical rules of sentence structure.  You will not do a Works Cited page for Paper 3.

  3. Unit 7 is the final required module for Web 2413. Once your Paper 3 has been submitted and marked "Accepted," you have earned a grade of "C" in the course.  You may choose to keep this grade.  Or you may choose to move on to Unit 8 and write Paper 4 (to get a "B").  Or you may choose to move on to Unit 9 and write Paper 5 (to get an "A").

  4. If you wish to stop with Unit 7, and take a grade of "C," please inform your instructor in the E-mail message to which you attach Paper 3.

Note 1 : Once again, this is an individual assignment—A FINAL EXAM—and you should not share material with other students of Web 2413.

Note 2: Remember: you may turn in only one assignment per day.  This is true even on the last day to turn in work for the course.

The questions below are a sample of what your Final Exam will be like.  This is only a sample.  Each student must E-mail the instructor and request a copy of the Final Exam.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)For each of the three (3) questions below, if this were the actual Final Exam, you would write a single-paragraph essay which completely answers the question and gives at least one example.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Each essay must be at least one hundred (100) words in length and should be written in complete, grammatically-correct sentences.

  1. In Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, how does Claudius murder his brother (Prince Hamlet's father), King Hamlet?

  2. Explicate the first stanza of Howard Nemerov's poem "The Goose Fish" on page 1020 of the Norton Anthology.

  3. Briefly explain the character of the Bartleby in Herman Melville's short story "Bartleby the Scrivener" on pages 116-142 of the Norton Anthology.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Remember: Paper 3 is the final required assignment of the semester.  When you submit your Paper 3 to the instructor, be sure and indicate which of the following options you plan to pursue:

  1. "C" Option: Stop with Unit 7 and take a grade of "C" in Web 2413.

  2. "B" Option: Move on to Unit 8 and write Paper 4 for a grade of "B."

  3. "A" Option: Move on to Unit 9 and write Paper 5 for a grade of "A."
