The written assignment for Section 9 is Paper 8.

Paper 8 is an informal essay of at least five hundred (500) words which performs a review of a movie or a book.  You must declare an option (either "B" or "A") before submitting Paper 8.

Before you do the readings and view the presentation below, please be advised of the following:

1. This section is optional.  Once you have officially completed Section 8 by submitting Paper 7 and having it marked "Accepted" you have earned a grade of "C" in Web 1213.  If you are satisfied with a grade of "C," there is no need to complete Section 9.  Instead, you should e-mail your instructor that you do not wish to write Paper 8 and would like to take a grade of "C".

2. In this section you will complete and submit your eighth written assignment.  However, your Paper 7 must be submitted and returned marked "Accepted" before you can submit Paper 8.

3. The written assignment for Section 9 (Paper 8) is a review of a movie or a book.  It should be written in an informal style.  However, you must use good basic sentence and paragraph structure.  There should be an introduction, a conclusion, and a separate body paragraph for each section of your evaluation (see the structure section of the PowerPoint presentation for details).  You will not do a Works Cited page for Paper 8.

4. The first step in completing Paper 8 is to pick an option and declare it in an e-mail message to your instructor.  Your e-mail message must include both the option you wish to pursue and which specific movie or book you plan to use as the topic for your Paper 8.  It will be easier if you do a topic outline first.  Use the sample outlines of paragraph structure for movie and book reviews in the presentation to set up your own outline.  However, you do not need to submit a Formal Outline for Paper 8.

5. The final step is to write your review and submit it to your instructor as an attachment to an e-mail message, as usual.  Remember that your Paper 8 must be accepted in order for you to receive a grade of "B" or "A".

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Note 1: You do not have to complete the "B" Option first, before completing the "A" Option.  This is an either/or choice.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Note 2: Paper 8 is similar to an assignment in Web 1113.  YOU MAY NOT USE THE SAME PAPER FOR BOTH COURSES.

Paper 8

Image2.gif (995 bytes)First you must pick either the "B" Option or the "A" Option.  Next you must declare that option by submitting it via e-mail to your instructor.  This message must include the title of the book or movie that you plan to review.  Reviews sent without the prior written approval of the instructor will not be accepted.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Remember: You may watch a movie from the approved movie list below and write a movie review for a "B" if accepted.  Or you may read a novel from the approved book list below and write a book review for an "A" if accepted.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Use only the movies and books on the lists below.  Reviews of movies or books not on the approved lists directly below the assignment section of this page will not be accepted.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)You must evaluate the movie or book.  That is, you must tell whether it is good or bad based on the criteria listed in the presentation.

You MUST address ALL the criteria given in the sample structure section of the above PowerPoint presentation.  Any review which fails to cover all the criteria listed in the sample structure section of the presentation will not be accepted.

Note 1: You need not submit an outline for Paper 8.  Once your five hundred (500) word review has been completed, submit it as an E-mail attachment.
