Section 8

Final Essay Exam

MAIN

Welcome to Section 8.

In Section 8 you will take an essay test over the material we have covered this semester.  This test will consist of three (3) paragraphs, each of which answer one of the questions below.  You will, of course, be able to use the textbooks and the presentations.  However, you should not share information with other students of Web 1213.

The written assignment for Section 8 is Paper 7.

Paper 7 is a series of three informal essays of at least one hundred (100) words each.   These essays should be used to answer the three questions that you will receive from the instructor.  All three questions must be answered correctly—and completely—in order for Paper 7 to be accepted.

Before you do the readings and view the presentation below, please be advised of the following:

1. In this section you will complete and submit your seventh written assignment.  However, your Paper 6 must be submitted and returned marked "Accepted" before you can submit Paper 7.

2. The written assignment for Section 8 (Paper 7) is a series of paragraph-length informal essays.  They should be written in an informal style.  However, you must still follow basic grammatical rules of sentence structure.  You will not do a Works Cited page for Paper 7.

3. Section 8 is the final required module for Web 1213.  Once your Paper 7 has been submitted and marked "Accepted" you have earned a grade of "C" in the course.  You may choose to keep this grade rather than going on to Section 9 and writing Paper 8 (to earn a grade of "B" or "A").

4. If you wish to stop with Section 8 and take a grade of "C" please inform your instructor in the E-Mail message to which you attach Paper 7.

Note: Once again, this is an individual assignment - a Final Exam - and you should not share material with other students of Web 1213.

The questions below are a sample of what your Final Exam will be like.  This is only a sample.  Each student must E-mail the instructor and request his/her own personal copy of the Final Exam.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)For each of the three (3) questions below, if this were the actual Final Exam, you would write a single-paragraph essay which completely answers the question and gives at least one example.

Image2.gif (995 bytes)Each essay must be at least one hundred (100) words in length and should be written in complete, grammatically-correct sentences.

  1. In Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, how does Claudius murder his brother (Prince Hamlet's father), King Hamlet?

  2. Explicate the first stanza of William Shakespeare's poem "Winter" on page 703 of the Introduction to Literature book.

  3. Briefly describe the character of the Misfit in Flannery O'Connor's short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find."

Note: Paper 7 is the final required assignment of the semester.  If you wish to move on to the optional Section 9 and write the optional Paper 8 for a grade of "B" or "A," you must first get your topic approved.  In order to do this, upon getting your Paper 7 accepted, you must E-mail the instructor and inform her/him which specific option you wish to choose, and which movie/book from the lists in Section 9 you plan to use as the topic for your essay..
