The written assignment for Module 9 is Paper 8.  Paper 8 is an informal essay of at least five hundred (500) words that performs a review of a movie or a book.  You must declare an option (either "B" or "A") before submitting Paper 8.

Before you do the readings and view the presentation below, please be advised of the following:

1. This section is optional.  Once you have officially completed Module 8 by submitting your Paper 7 and having it returned marked "Accepted," you have earned a grade of "C" in Web 1113.  If you are satisfied with a grade of "C," there is no need to complete Module 9.  Instead, you should E-mail your instructor that you do not wish to write Paper 8 and would like to take a grade of "C."

2. In this section you will complete and submit your eighth written assignment.  You MUST follow the Submission Procedure outlined on the Web 1113 Home Page.

3. The written assignment for Module 9 (Paper 8) is a review of a movie or a book.  It should be written in an informal style.  However, you should use good basic sentence and paragraph structure.  There should be an introduction, a conclusion, and a separate body paragraph for each section of your evaluation (see the structure section of the presentation for details).  You will not need to do a Works Cited page for Paper 8.

4. The first step in completing Paper 8 is to pick an option and declare it by submitting an E-mail to your instructor.  Next, choose a movie or a book from the approved list and do an evaluation.  Do a topic outline first.  Use the sample outlines of paragraph structure for movie and book reviews in the presentation to set up your own outline.

5. The final step is to write your review and submit it to your instructor as an attachment to an E-mail message, as usual.  Remember that your Paper 8 must be returned marked "Accepted" in order for you to receive a grade of "B" or "A" in the course.

NOTE 1: If you declare for the "B" option and decide (after having submitted Paper 8 and having it returned marked "Accepted") that you have time and stamina enough left to do the "A" option as well, you are welcome to do so.

NOTE 2: Remember: you may submit only one (1) essay per day.  This is true even on the last day to turn in work for the class.

  ASSIGNMENT

Paper 8

  1. First you must pick either the "B" or the "A" option.  Next you must declare that option by submitting it via E-mail to your instructor.

  2. Remember: You may either watch a movie from the approved movie list below and write a movie review for a "B" if accepted.  Or you may read a novel from the approved book list below and write a book review for an "A" if accepted.

  3. The lists below have been updated.  The are not the same as the lists given in the PowerPoint presentation.

  4. Reviews of movies or books not on the approved lists directly below the assignment section of this page will not be accepted.

  5. You must evaluate the movie or book that you choose.  In other words, you must tell whether it is good or bad based on the criteria listed in the presentation.

  6. YOUR REVIEW MUST ADDRESS ALL OF THE CRITERIA GIVEN IN THE SAMPLE STRUCTURE SECTION OF THE ABOVE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.

  7. It is highly recommended that each student complete a topic outline that addresses each of the criteria listed in the PowerPoint presentation before trying to write her/his review. Any review that fails to cover all the criteria listed in the sample structure section of the presentation will not be accepted - even if this means that the student does not earn a grade of "B" or "A" in the course..

  8. Finally, once you have put together a good topic outline, write a review of at least five hundred (500) words using the Persuasive Aim and the Mode of Evaluation.  Again, you should follow the sample paragraph structure given in the presentation.  Any review that fails to follow the sample structure will not be accepted.

  9. Paper 8 must be returned marked "Accepted" in order for you to receive a grade of "B" or "A" in Web 1113.
