Aggies are Summer All-Stars
Every summer MSC Aggie baseball players leave the friendly confines of “The Ranch” in Tishomingo for collegiate summer leagues across the country. Currently there are 14 current or future Aggies competing in collegiate summer leagues throughout the country. Several Aggies have received recognition for their outstanding play this summer and have been named to the All-Star team in the respective leagues.
Coastal Plains League
Lane Paul (SO)
Lane Paul was named a starter to the Coastal Plains League East All-Star roster. The Coastal Plains League which is one of the premier collegiate summer leagues in country and boast nearly 1,200 alumni drafted including 65 alumni that have made it to Major League Baseball. The game was played on July 14th and at Big Rock Stadium, home of the Morehead City Marlins in Morehead City, NC. Paul, who plays for the Fayetteville SwampDogs going into the All-Star break was his team in batting average (.310), total bases (46), slugging percentage (.407), and RBI (22).
New York Collegiate Baseball League
Tre Edwards (RS FR)
Fernando Garcia (Incoming)
Tre Edwards and Fernando Garcia are teammates this summer with the Geneva Twins in the NYCBL. Though the two had never played with one another until this summer, they are making a strong impression on one another with their outstanding play. Both Edwards (SS) and Garcia (CF) were named starters for the league’s Western Division team in the NYCBL All-Star Game. They helped Western Division team to a 1-0 victory, on July, 8 at Kerr-Pegula Athletics Complex in Houghton, NY. Currently Edwards is batting .388 (2nd in the NYCBL) and leads his team in runs (20), hits (31), and stolen bases (17). Garcia who will be an incoming freshman is doing an impressive job holding his own against the older competition, he is currently batting .344 with a .505 slugging percentage.
Keach Ballard (Alumni)
Former Aggie Keach Ballard is having an impressive summer for the Duluth Huskies in one of the top leagues in the country, the Northwoods League. Ballard is currently holds a .302 batting average with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 homeruns. His 34 RBI is not only leading his team, but good enough to rank in the top 10 in the league.
West Coast League
Connor Counce (Alumni)
Connor Counce had big sophomore campaign for the Aggies in 2014, his team record 17 homeruns was not only enough to lead the country, but also enough to earn him an invite to participate in the West Coast League Homerun Derby which was held on July 21st. The West Coast League is based in the Pacific Northwest and is dedicated to accelerating prospect development and increasing player exposure, founded in 2005 it has quickly become one of the top collegiate summer leagues in the country. Along with Aggie teammates Austin Hagy and Michael Brinska, Counce plays the Klamath Falls Gems this summer and is currently hitting .268 with 7 doubles, 2 homeruns and 18 RBI.
